Within the context of our smoking engine scenario (part uno), I would propose that a suspect belief system, as well as associated dysfunctional reactions, may be driven by assorted unconscious issues symbolized by the smoking engine. Much of this is based in rational emotive behavior therapy (REBT).

Instead of finding relief for fear and its fallout in the immediate, she was proposing a permanent solution by identifying the deepest and truest foundation of my fears. In theory, if I was able to secure that identification, process it, and resolve it, I’d in effect be “cured.”

It was obvious she was suffering from some pretty intense anxiety and I learned she’d had a nasty panic attack at home, which led to her mother bringing her to the E.R.
